Cereal

Katelyn got her first taste of rice cereal last night. It didn't go over as well as I had hoped but when we fed her, she was utterly exhausted and just wanted to take a bath and go to bed. She actually cried because she just wasn't having it. I tried again this morning when she wasn't so tired and she did well. She seemed to get better and better the more I fed her....she's figuring out what to do with her tongue! We'll see if this helps keep her more satisfied in the hunger department. She seems to be eating me out of house and home lately. I guess she's going through a growth spurt!

On another note---Last night Katelyn slept without being swaddled at ALL!!!! She was so tired that she fell asleep while she was eating. She slept for 5.5 hours before getting up to eat. She even slept through a pretty bad thunderstorm. I was so happy that she was sleeping unswaddled that I couldn't sleep myself! I'm hoping tonight will be another good night and she'll just get more and more used to being FREE in her crib. She's seemed to have already found her favorite spot. I guess it's amazing what she can do when she isn't swaddled. Everyone keep your fingers crossed that she's onto something!! (I hesitate to get too excited because she has been known to just kid me!)

To swaddle or not to swaddle

This is the question at our house right now. Katelyn has decided in the last couple of nights that she doesn't like to be wrapped like a burrito at night anymore. Monday night we followed our usual routine but after she got swaddled she screamed bloody murder. When we unwrapped her, she was happy as a clam. I thought "Great, she doesn't want to be swaddled." The minute I put her in her bed.....the crying ensued and she was not going to let herself calm down to go to sleep. So last night we tried the one arm in, one arm out swaddle. It didn't work at first but after feeding her at 3 am and her not having the swaddle we tried again. She stirred for the longest time but finally gave in. It was a long night for me as it seemed like I was up every hour. She slept for about 4 hours last night with one arm out so I'm hopeful that we are making progress in the swaddle feat! All suggestions or pieces of advice are welcome!! I have been ready for her to be unswaddle for about 2 months now, so I'm crossing my fingers she has finally decided!

So enough about that, here's a picture from this week!

Bath Time!!

Katelyn loves her bath! When she is freaking out in the evening, this is one of the few things that calms her down. I can't wait until she can sit up on her own and play in the water...then she really won't want to get out!

"K" is for Katelyn!!

In honor of Capt Matt Freeman

Yesterday, Katelyn and I witnessed and participated in what I would call the most patriotic thing I think I have ever seen. It brought tears to almost everyone's eyes. On Friday, Marine Capt. Matt Freeman was killed in Afghanistan. He was 29 years old and married for only 3 weeks. Yesterday his body was flown home to Richmond Hill, GA (a town about 20 miles from where we live) where he will be laid to rest. The town did so much to show their appreciation for Freeman's sacrifice. I didn't know Freeman personally nor did most of the people there but over a 1000 people stopped their activities for the afternoon to show their support. What a great community and it makes me feel so proud to have been a part of it!

This was what the sky looked like when Capt Freeman arrived at the funeral home. I'd say someone was looking down on him!

Even Katelyn had her flag!

Yesterday made me realize how life can change so quickly. Never take your loved ones for granted and when you think you've had a bad day realize that it could always be worse-there's a widow out there who will never get to see her husband again.

Thanks to all our troops for the sacrifices they make to keep our country free and I wish that everyone community would be as supportive as this one! To all our troops deploying and preparing to deploy, be safe and hurry home! We will miss you all and know that you are always thought about back home in everything you do!

3 months

Where has time gone?! Once again I find myself wondering where the last 3 months have gone. Katelyn is 3 months old already! We're enjoying watching her change everyday. Her newest thing is talking to us and entertaining herself with her burp rag/blanket. Who needs expensive toys!?!

Happy Anniversary!

It all started on that hot August day! Little did I know what walking under those sabres would mean for me :) but I've enjoyed and learned to live with all the decisions the Army has made for us. 3 moves, 3 states, 13 month deployment, and one baby later these last 3 years have seemed to just fly by! I can't wait to see what the next 50 will bring!

Happy Anniversary Babe, I love you so much!
